Tips to be winter ready?
Now that the clocks have changed, the temperature is dropping and the leaves are falling its a good time to review if your home or office is winter ready! See our tips and advice to help ensure you do not get caught out in the cold.
Service your heating System - Schedule a qualified engineer to professionally maintain your heating system to ensure that it will continue to run efficiently and safely. Heating systems operate at their height of demand in the winter so take steps to ensure that everything is operating as well as it should
Bleed Radiators - Bleeding your radiators will improve heat efficiency and remove air to help make use of the full radiator
Seal Drafts - Check all of your windows and doors for any drafts. Excluders, caulks and silicones can be added to help reduce this to lock heat in and keep water and ice out. We offer thermographic inspections to be able to easily locate cold spots and drafty areas.
Reverse Ceiling Fans - If you have these, reverse the direction of the fan at a low speed to pull warm air from the ceiling down to a lower level
Curtains and Blinds - Use these strategically throughout the day. Open any coverings during the day to make the most of any solar gain and close them at night to trap heat inside
Protect Pipes - Insulate exposed pipes to prevent freezing. Particularly boiler condensate pipes as this will impact the operation of your heating system.
Clear Gutters - clean any gutters of leaves and debris to ensure water can drain properly, preventing ice and water damage
Test any detectors - Test your smoke, heat and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure correct operation. Double check the expiry dates to ensure these remain reliable and compliant
